Active transportation project improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity along the Cinder Bed Road corridor between Newington and Lorton.
The Cinder Bed Bikeway is a planned active transportation improvement intended to provide safer and more continuous pedestrian and bicycle access along the Cinder Bed Road corridor. The project supports regional trail connectivity, neighborhood access, and safer non-motorized travel between Newington, Springfield, and Lorton.

The Cinder Bed Road corridor lacks continuous and comfortable pedestrian and bicycle facilities despite serving as an important connection between neighborhoods, employment areas, transit access points, and regional trails.
The project is intended to close gaps in the active transportation network and improve safety for people walking and biking along the corridor.
The project will construct pedestrian and bicycle access improvements along Cinder Bed Road. Planned improvements include shared-use path segments, improved crossings, and pedestrian bridge elements designed to enhance safety, connectivity, and continuity for non-motorized users.
