The Lorton Road / Silverbrook Road corridor is one of the most important local transportation nodes in South Fairfax. It serves commuters, school traffic, neighborhood trips, transit access, and regional traffic moving between Lorton, Laurel Hill, Silverbrook Road, Route 123, and I-95.
Ongoing transportation review has focused on improving traffic operations, turn-lane performance, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and coordination with nearby projects.

The corridor experiences recurring congestion, turning delays, queueing, and safety concerns during peak travel periods. The area also serves residents accessing schools, parks, neighborhoods, transit, and regional roadway connections.
The purpose of the ongoing review is to identify improvements that can support safer and more reliable movement for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and nearby communities.
Potential improvements may include operational changes, turn-lane modifications, signal timing review, pedestrian crossing improvements, bicycle and sidewalk coordination, and corridor-level traffic management.
Because multiple transportation and utility projects affect the broader area, coordination is important to avoid overlapping disruptions and to ensure improvements work together.

Fairfax County and VDOT continue evaluating corridor conditions and potential operational improvements. Future implementation will depend on final engineering recommendations, funding availability, agency coordination, and community review.
