Implementation Roadmap

A practical roadmap for moving TranspoFairfax from today’s static knowledge base toward a searchable, database-driven, map-enabled, AI-assisted transportation platform.

Purpose

This roadmap explains how TranspoFairfax can grow step by step without losing the clarity and simplicity of the current static site. The goal is to build carefully: content first, structure second, technology third.

Phase 1 — Static Site Buildout

  • Build core project pages
  • Build community and corridor hubs
  • Build category pages
  • Create resource, archive, and TAC vision pages
  • Establish a public-facing proof of concept

Phase 2 — Standardized Templates

  • Use a consistent project page format
  • Standardize community, corridor, and category pages
  • Define reusable sections and data fields
  • Improve consistency across page titles, navigation, and footers

Phase 3 — Content Review & Cleanup

  • Review all links
  • Check page consistency
  • Update outdated placeholder language
  • Confirm project status labels
  • Identify missing project pages

Phase 4 — Global Header & Footer

  • Maintain static HTML while building
  • Prepare shared footer and navigation standards
  • Later convert to PHP includes when the site stabilizes
  • Reduce repeated edits across many pages

Phase 5 — Search & Indexing

  • Create a searchable site index
  • Add project tags and metadata
  • Organize pages by project, community, corridor, category, and status
  • Prepare for database-backed search

Phase 6 — Database Prototype

  • Convert key project fields into structured records
  • Create project, community, corridor, agency, funding, document, meeting, and issue tables
  • Build a simple admin workflow for updates
  • Connect project pages to database records

Phase 7 — GIS / Maps

  • Add project locations
  • Map corridors and communities
  • Create map layers for status, category, and issue type
  • Connect maps to project and archive records

Phase 8 — AI Assistant

  • Use structured project records as source material
  • Answer resident questions in plain language
  • Link answers back to project pages and documents
  • Support future spoken summaries

Phase 9 — Multi-Jurisdiction Expansion

  • Test the TranspoFairfax model in other communities
  • Standardize local transportation knowledge base templates
  • Support multiple counties, cities, or regions
  • Move toward a national transportation knowledge network

Guiding Principle

Build the knowledge first. Structure it carefully. Then add technology that makes the knowledge easier to search, map, analyze, and explain.
