A long-term vision for transforming local transportation knowledge into a searchable, map-based, AI-assisted, voice-enabled civic information platform.
TranspoFairfax began as a way to organize transportation projects in South Fairfax. Its future is larger: a civic knowledge platform that helps residents understand projects, agencies, funding, timelines, documents, meetings, and transportation issues.
Residents should eventually be able to ask questions such as:
The system should respond using structured records and source-linked information.
A future TranspoFairfax assistant could speak short project summaries aloud, helping residents access transportation information while driving, walking, or using mobile devices.
Interactive maps could allow residents to see transportation projects by corridor, community, status, funding source, or agency.
Structured transportation data could eventually support public dashboards, maps, search tools, partner applications, and AI systems.
Future TAC tools could allow trusted community contributors to suggest updates, submit meeting notes, identify missing projects, report broken links, and help preserve transportation history.
The larger vision is a transportation knowledge model that could be adapted for other counties, cities, regions, and states.
Transportation knowledge should be easier to find, easier to understand, easier to preserve, and easier to use.
That principle will guide the future of TranspoFairfax.
